Indie TTRPG studio · Play-by-Post on Discord

Live-service TTRPG worlds. Seasons ship. Bosses roam. Nobody gets plot armor.

Mighty Meat Shield runs persistent Play-by-Post campaigns the way a studio runs an MMO: quarterly seasons, patch notes, world bosses, and a custom bot stack that tracks your gear and dice. Pick a world, take a month for $30, and post on your own schedule.

Live service

What ships, and how often

Play-by-Post usually dies of silence: the GM goes quiet, a fight takes a month, the thread fizzles. These are the service levels that keep it from happening here.

Every weekday
One GM sweep across every game, usually evenings. No multi-day silences, no sandbox with nothing to do.
Every combat day
A full round resolves. Each side declares inside the same window and the GM resolves it in one post, so a fight moves in rounds per day, not turns per week.
Every quarter
A new seasonal arc: roaming threats, featured locations, limited-time events, and a battle pass. The world moves whether you log in or not.
When it breaks
Balance patches. Broken interactions get fixed, house rules get version numbers, and the changes land in the patch notes.

The bot stack

  • Scribey Inventory, wallet, and quest tracking on one persistent database.
  • DiceBoy System-aware dice with an audit log.
  • CheckinBot Daily in-character prompts that keep the world moving between scenes.

Campaign DNA

Different genres, one spine

Genre is the emotional contract. It tells players what kinds of fear, hope, sacrifice, humor, and power belong in the world. Persistent state, player agency, play-by-post craft, systems, and seasonal operation determine how that world answers back.

Overlapping parts of a Mighty Meat Shield campaign, including its genre range.
Horror, grimdark, high fantasy, JRPG, cyberpunk, science fiction, superheroes, and cozy play share the same campaign spine: a persistent world with consequences and room for players to change it.

"Cid is an amazing storyteller and world builder... His ability to balance risk and create a sense of stakes in each scene is phenomenal. Even though he has great control of the worlds he builds, he is always open to suggestions."

Shea

136sessions

"Cid does a fantastic job of making an immersive and ever growing world... He looks for feedback and is very considerate in adjusting the game to fit our needs and comfort level while still keeping it challenging."

Athanasia

129sessions

"Cid has truly mastered the art of storytelling... His world-building is phenomenal. Perhaps most importantly, Cid responds well to player agency, adapting the story to accommodate our choices while maintaining a coherent narrative."

Scotty

85sessions

"Cid's worldbuilding is spectacular... There are consequences for actions and non actions. I don't know many GM's that can make their world/environment feel that organic and alive."

Devin

73sessions

"Cid is very approachable and helpful both to new players and people familiar with the game. The Faserip system is great... Cid is responsive to questions asked and the game moves at a good pace."

Alvin

65sessions

"Very creative, loves world building, very helpful and patient for those new to 'play by post' games... Also he gave me a dope Fox Spirit"

The studio

Bootstrapped and built in-house

Mighty Meat Shield is founded and run by Cid: creative director, systems designer, lead engineer, and the GM at the table, with 20+ years behind the screen. The worlds, the seasonal arcs, the bots, the builders, and the rulebooks all come out of the same shop, so a rough edge reported this week is usually fixed this week.

  • Safe table, dangerous worldHigh-trust and inclusive, which is what lets the fiction go brutal.
  • Dice fall where they fallNo fudging, no pulled punches, high lethality.
  • The world answers backNPCs remember. Choices and non-choices both have consequences.
  • Your GM wants you to winPushed to the limit, never set up to fail.
  • Rulebooks

Original systems tested at real tables: STIGMATA, Monster Medley, and Critters, in production for direct PDF and print.

  • GM software

Questions

Before you join

How does the Trial Pass work?
One payment of $30 buys 30 days of full access for new players: the current seasonal storyline, a Trial Quest, and seasonal boss fights. Nothing renews. If you stay after 30 days, you move to a weekly subscription, $15 direct or $18 through StartPlaying.
Why do Custom Groups cost more?
A standard subscription puts you in a shared, persistent world with other players. Custom Groups ($30 per player per week) and Duets ($60 per player per week) get a private shard of a world, bespoke world-building, and priority GM response.
What happens if I miss a week?
Your character stays in the world. The world keeps moving, so an active subscription is what lets you shape the current seasonal storyline and fight in World Boss events.
Which systems do the worlds run on?
Fabula Ultima, D&D 5e, FASERIP, Sentinel Comics, and Traveller, plus Monster Medley, the studio's own system. The realm board on this page shows which worlds are open right now.
